Mickey W. Swisher Obituary, MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Mickey W. Swisher, 30, of Morgantown, West Virginia, died Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026, after an industrial accident on an Interstate 79 bridge in West Virginia. Two other workers were also injured in the incident and transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. near Mile Marker 142.5 on I-79. According to the initial investigation, a heavy crane malfunctioned while work was underway on the bridge, causing concrete barriers to move and strike three workers.
The impact knocked all three workers from the bridge. Swisher was among those involved and was fatally injured in the incident. Authorities notified his next of kin at the scene.
Two other workers sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions had not been released at the time of the initial report.
Senior Trooper N.E. McDougal responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident. Investigators are examining the crane malfunction and the events that led to the concrete barriers striking the workers.
