Emily Obituary, SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Emily, the mother of Lisa and Diane, has died at Kingways Nursing Home in Schenectady, according to a family announcement. She passed away this past Saturday, just two months shy of her 94th birthday.
Emily spent nearly three years living with Lisa and her family after they welcomed her into their home when she needed additional support. Her family described those years as a special time in which they worked to make her life as happy as possible and included her in their everyday activities.
Emily lived with dementia, and her family said they embraced and understood her condition while continuing to make meaningful memories with her. Steve “Cappy” Caporizzo, who shared the news, recalled how he always tried to make Emily laugh and spoke warmly about the bond she shared with the family.
Animals were also an important part of Emily’s life. She loved the family’s dogs, and they loved her in return. Her own dog, Joss, lived with the family before passing away, while Pappy became especially close to Emily, with the two described as inseparable.
The family made a point of taking Emily with them wherever they went. She regularly joined them at the Tailgate Tavern, where she enjoyed a hot open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. Her family fondly remembered how she would impress them by finishing the entire meal.
Emily’s family said her passing has brought deep sadness, while also offering comfort in the belief that she is now reunited with her daughter Lisa. Her life was marked by the love and care of those around her, including the family who welcomed her into their home and sought to fill her later years with companionship and happiness.
There will be no formal services. Instead, the family will hold a private gathering at the cemetery for relatives and close friends. Emily will be laid to rest between her two daughters, Diane and Lisa, as those closest to her come together to honor her life and memory.
