Dawn Estrella Obituary, PALM COAST, Fla. — Dawn Estrella, 47, of Palm Coast, Florida, has died following a shooting at a residence on Weyanoke Lane that authorities are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide involving her husband, Rakim-Shakur Brooks, 55, on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home after multiple 911 calls reported a shooting at approximately 10:18 p.m. Investigators said the incident followed an argument between Estrella and Brooks, who had been married since March 2024 and were reportedly in the process of separating.
Deputies arrived at the residence within about five minutes and found Brooks deceased inside the garage from what investigators described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Inside a bedroom, deputies found Estrella suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue crews responded to assist with emergency efforts. Despite life-saving measures, Estrella was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m., according to authorities.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit investigated the deaths. Detectives interviewed two people who were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and authorities said both individuals were unharmed.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Brooks shot Estrella following an argument before taking his own life. Authorities are continuing to investigate how Brooks, a convicted felon, obtained the firearm used in the shooting.
The sheriff’s office said Estrella and Brooks had been in a relationship for approximately nine years before their deaths. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
