Christina Hammers and Bruce Taylor Obituary, HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — Christina Hammers, 46, and Bruce Taylor, 43, were killed in a shooting at a Murphy gas station in the Surfside Beach area of Horry County late Wednesday night, August 26, 2026, according to the Horry County Police Department and Horry County Coroner’s Office.
The shooting happened at approximately 11:45 p.m. at the Murphy gas station located on the 100 block of Mayport Drive. Authorities said Hammers and Taylor entered the gas station shortly before the shooting occurred.
According to investigators, Taylor approached Hammers after they entered the store, grabbed her and shot her. Authorities said Taylor then walked across the store before turning the firearm on himself. Both Hammers and Taylor suffered critical injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the two people who died as Hammers and Taylor. Hammers lived at the Myrtle Beach Resort, while Taylor was a resident of Georgetown.
When officers arrived at the gas station following reports of a shooting, they found three people who had been shot. Two victims suffered critical injuries and were later confirmed dead, while a third person sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released the identity of the third person or additional details about the circumstances of that person’s injuries.
Horry County Police officers secured the area and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities said all parties involved have been accounted for and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. The incident is being treated as an isolated shooting.
