Jody W. Thackeray and Desiree S. Thackeray Obituary, SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Jody W. Thackeray, 68, and Desiree S. Thackeray, 40, have died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 215 in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on southbound I-215 near 2300 North, according to authorities. The crash involved three vehicles and resulted in the deaths of both occupants of a 2005 Jaguar S-Type.
Investigators said a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek rear-ended the Jaguar, causing the Jaguar to be pushed into the rear of a 2024 Ford F-150. Jody and Desiree were traveling together in the Jaguar when the collision occurred.
Both occupants of the Jaguar suffered severe injuries in the crash. Despite emergency response efforts, Jody and Desiree were ultimately pronounced dead.
Authorities identified the victims as Jody W. Thackeray, 68, and Desiree S. Thackeray, 40. Officials have not released the identities or conditions of the people who were traveling in the Subaru Crosstrek or Ford F-150.
The crash led to a significant emergency response and forced authorities to close southbound I-215 for approximately four hours. Investigators used the closure to examine the scene, document evidence and work to reconstruct how the three vehicles became involved in the collision.
Authorities have not released a confirmed cause of the crash. Officials have also not said whether speed, impairment, distraction or another factor contributed to the collision.
