Logan Lee Sydney Denniss Obituary, SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD, Nottinghamshire — Logan Lee Sydney Denniss, a seven-year-old boy from the Sutton-in-Ashfield area, died after being struck by a Honda Civic on the A38 Kings Mill Road East on March 10, 2026. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8.26 p.m., after Logan escaped from his family home near the busy road.
An inquest into Logan’s death concluded on Friday, September 25, at Nottingham’s Council House, where details surrounding the circumstances of the tragedy were heard. The hearing was told that Logan had autism and potential ADHD, conditions that significantly affected his awareness of danger and contributed to his tendency to run away unexpectedly.
According to evidence presented at the inquest, Logan had previously attempted to leave the family home. On the night of the collision, his mother, Joanne Parker, had gone to the gate to collect a takeaway. The gate was left unsecured and bounced back open, while Logan had found a key that allowed him to leave the property.
Police investigator Sarah Butler of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit told the inquest that Logan immediately began running after leaving the property. Joanne followed him, but Logan interpreted his mother’s efforts to catch him as a game. Witnesses saw the child running along the road, but because Joanne was approximately 50 metres behind him, they believed the situation was under control.
Logan eventually stepped onto the busy A38 and into the path of a Honda Civic. The driver had little or no time to react, according to forensic collision investigator Steven Smith. The driver initially believed he had struck a pothole and stopped after the impact to provide first aid. Breath tests raised no concerns, while investigators concluded that a hands-free phone call the driver had taken shortly before the collision was not sufficient to have distracted him.
A post-mortem examination found that Logan died from an aortic transection caused by trauma sustained in the crash. Steven Smith described the collision as the tragic culmination of a series of unfortunate events and circumstances. Coroner Neena Sharma concluded that Logan’s autism and ADHD were highly relevant factors because of his significantly reduced appreciation of danger and his tendency to run away unexpectedly. She also found that Joanne had acted immediately after becoming aware that her son had left the property.
Remembering her son, Joanne described Logan as a very happy child who loved to play and go on adventures. She said he was determined when he wanted to do something and was not interested in simply sitting and watching television. Her tribute reflected the energetic and adventurous nature of a young boy whose life ended in a tragic road collision. Logan Lee Sydney Denniss will be remembered by those who knew him, while his family continues to mourn his loss.
