Angela Johnson & DeAngelo Johnson Obituary, CHICAGO, Ill. — Angela Johnson, 47, and her son, DeAngelo Johnson, 27, have died following a shooting inside a residence in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. Police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide, with Angela Johnson’s boyfriend taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The shooting happened in the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue at approximately 10:43 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots coming from the basement of the residence before calling 911. When Chicago police officers arrived, they found both Angela and DeAngelo suffering from gunshot wounds.

Angela Johnson was found in the basement with a gunshot wound to her chest. DeAngelo Johnson was found on the first floor with multiple gunshot wounds, including two wounds to his back, according to police-radio traffic. Both victims were initially unresponsive and in critical condition when emergency personnel began treating them.

Emergency personnel performed CPR on DeAngelo Johnson before he and Angela were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. Both were later pronounced dead. Police-radio traffic indicated that one victim was pronounced dead at approximately 11:18 p.m., while the male victim was pronounced dead around 11:21 p.m.

Investigators recovered extensive evidence from inside the residence. Approximately 23 shell casings were reportedly found in a basement bedroom, while additional shell casings were recovered from other areas of the basement, including the stairway, main room and bedroom. Officers also recovered a firearm from the basement bedroom and later located a second firearm inside the home.

Authorities have not publicly determined who owned the firearms or confirmed which weapon, if either, was used in the fatal shooting. Police also reported finding DeAngelo Johnson wearing an empty holster on the first floor, prompting an officer-safety alert while officers searched the residence for the missing firearm.

Chicago police described the shooting as appearing to be domestic-related and identified the alleged offender as Angela Johnson’s boyfriend. Radio traffic indicated that a person had been detained by approximately 11:26 p.m., and the official police report later confirmed that the known offender was taken into custody. Two witnesses were reportedly available to identify the alleged offender, and officers conducted a show-up identification procedure near the scene.

Police have not released additional information about potential charges against the suspect. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the relationship between those involved and the role of the two recovered firearms. The deaths of Angela Johnson and DeAngelo Johnson leave a family and community grieving as investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the tragedy. Their lives and memory remain at the center of the ongoing investigation.
