Christopher Latchford Obituary, CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Christopher Latchford, 40, of Mount Orab, Ohio, was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking along Ohio 32 in Union Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The fatal pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. on Ohio 32. Authorities said Latchford was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a westbound 2020 Kia Sportage.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following the collision. Despite the response, Latchford was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has left his family and those who knew him mourning his loss.
The Kia Sportage was being driven by a 37-year-old woman, who was not injured in the crash, authorities said. Initial emergency dispatch information indicated that the driver called 911 following the collision.
According to dispatch information, the driver told emergency personnel that a man had suddenly run into the roadway in front of her vehicle. She also reported that the pedestrian appeared to be lying face down in the roadway and was not moving.
The circumstances surrounding why Latchford was in the roadway and what occurred immediately before the collision remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the events leading up to the crash.
Westbound lanes of Ohio 32 were temporarily closed while investigators documented the scene and worked to determine the circumstances of the fatal crash. The nearby ramp from Ohio 32 to Eastgate Boulevard was also closed during the emergency response, but both the westbound lanes and ramp have since reopened.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the death of Christopher Latchford. As authorities work to establish the full circumstances of the collision, his passing is being remembered with respect, and condolences go to his family, friends, and others affected by his loss.
