Danielle O’Keane Obituary, DUBLIN, Ireland — Danielle O’Keane, 37, a mother of two from Saval, Newry, has died after sustaining injuries in a road traffic collision following a Westlife concert in Dublin.
O’Keane was travelling in a rickshaw from the 3Arena into Dublin city centre on Saturday, September 26, after attending the concert. The rickshaw reportedly struck a curb during the journey, leaving O’Keane seriously injured.
She was taken by ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she received treatment for injuries sustained in the collision. Despite medical care, O’Keane died on Thursday, October 1.
According to a funeral notice from Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors, O’Keane was the much-loved wife of Dave and the mother of Caolán and Cillian. She was also remembered as the daughter of Michael and Pauline and the sister of Barry and her twin brother Sean.
Speaking to Newstalk on Thursday, O’Keane’s sister-in-law, Aisling O’Kane, described Danielle as a “loving, selfless” person. She said Danielle and three other women had travelled by rickshaw after the concert while they planned to meet their husbands and partners in the city centre.
The collision also left another woman with a head laceration, a broken nose and broken teeth, while the other two women were not injured, according to the information provided.
Aisling said Danielle’s two young sons had been struggling to understand their mother’s death, recalling that her youngest son continued to ask, “Where is Mummy?” She also remembered receiving one of Danielle’s final messages, a photograph of her packed suitcases for a holiday they had been due to take the following week.
Funeral arrangements for Danielle O’Keane are expected to be announced by her family. She is remembered by her husband, children, parents, siblings, wider family circle and friends, who now mourn her loss and hold close the memories of her life and devotion to her family.
