Olvin Daniel Cabrera Valladares Obituary: Miami, Florida – 13-Year-Old Dies After Playground Slide Accident

Olvin Daniel Cabrera Valladares Obituary, MIAMI, Fla. — Olvin Daniel Cabrera Valladares, a 13-year-old Florida boy and student at Citrus Grove K-8 Center, has died following a tragic playground accident at Shenandoah Park in Miami.

Olvin went to Shenandoah Park on Sept. 25 after riding his scooter there. According to his mother, Estefanía Valladares, he was supposed to be at school that day.

According to the family, Olvin entered a tube slide at the playground when his T-shirt became caught on a screw protruding from the slide. His family said the shirt tightened around his neck, leaving him unable to free himself.

Olvin was discovered by a father who had arrived at the park with his children. According to his mother, the man attempted to pull Olvin from the slide and realized that he was caught on a screw. He was eventually able to free the boy and immediately began trying to help him.

Emergency crews continued lifesaving efforts after arriving at the scene, and Olvin was taken to a hospital in critical condition. His family remained hopeful for his recovery in the days that followed.

Tragically, Olvin was declared brain dead on Oct. 1, six days after the playground incident. He was the youngest child in his family, and his mother described him as her “baby,” saying he had his entire life ahead of him.

Shenandoah Park was temporarily closed following the incident while authorities conducted what was described as a non-criminal investigation. The park later reopened. The City of Miami has not publicly released a final investigative finding confirming exactly how Olvin became trapped, and the account involving the protruding or loose screw comes from his family.

The circumstances have raised concerns about playground safety and equipment inspections. Olvin’s mother is urging other parents to carefully inspect playground equipment and closely supervise children at playgrounds. A GoFundMe campaign has also been established to help the family with funeral expenses.

Olvin Daniel Cabrera Valladares will be remembered by his family and those who knew him as a young boy whose life ended far too soon. His family continues to mourn his passing and navigate the difficult days following the tragedy.
