Mall of Georgia Fire Today — A small fire inside a Victoria’s Secret store at the Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia, was extinguished Thursday after emergency crews responded to reports of smoke filling the store. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said firefighters were dispatched after receiving multiple 911 calls at approximately 11:52 a.m.
Firefighters arrived at the Mall of Georgia about five minutes after the initial reports and found that the fire was located in a janitorial closet inside the store. Crews reported that there was no visible fire from outside the building, but a small interior fire had occurred in the closet area.
The store’s sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived. Officials said the fire did not spread beyond the janitor’s closet, and crews worked to remove smoke from the area and stabilize the scene.
Approximately 300 people were evacuated from the area by firefighters and mall security as a precaution while emergency crews handled the situation. No injuries were reported following the incident.
The only reported damage was minor damage to electrical components located behind a floor cleaner in the janitorial closet. Medical crews were also used for firefighter rehabilitation during the emergency response.
The scene was stabilized shortly before 12:30 p.m. after firefighters completed smoke removal efforts and confirmed the fire was under control. Officials determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
Authorities have not reported any further dangers or ongoing threats related to the incident. Shoppers and visitors are encouraged to follow directions from emergency personnel and remain aware of any official updates regarding the Mall of Georgia.
