Aaliyah Wilson Obituary, WICHITA, Kan. — Aaliyah Wilson, 24, was killed in a shooting in west Wichita, prompting an active homicide investigation and a search for a person of interest identified by police as Xavion Dates.
Wichita police officers responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of South Tyler Street, near Maple Street, at approximately 6:20 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Wilson suffering from gunshot wounds.
Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances that led to the shooting or identified a possible motive.
The Wichita Police Department is asking the public for help locating Dates, whom investigators have identified as a person of interest in the homicide investigation. Police said Dates may have information about the shooting or may have been involved.
According to police, Dates allegedly carjacked and stole a white Toyota RAV4 following the incident. Investigators later recovered the vehicle at 505 N. Rock Road. Police said Dates was last seen wearing a McDonald’s uniform with black pants.
Authorities have warned that Dates should be considered armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach or attempt to confront him. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately and provide his location to police. Information about the shooting or his whereabouts can also be reported to 911.
The shooting has left residents in the surrounding area concerned. Jolee Roberts, who lives at a nearby apartment complex, said she was frightened by the violence, particularly after learning the victim was close to her age. Roberts also spoke about concerns surrounding violence and the safety of children in the community.
The investigation into Wilson’s death remains active, and police have not released further details about the circumstances or motive. As authorities continue working to establish what happened, Aaliyah Wilson is remembered at 24 years old, with her death leaving family, friends and others who knew her to grieve her loss.
