Ansley Harris Jr. Obituary, DETROIT, Mich. — Ansley Harris Jr., 45, is being remembered by his family and loved ones following his death in a shooting Sunday morning at a home on Detroit’s west side near Prest Street and Eaton Avenue.
Detroit police said officers responded shortly after 7:20 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and a 911 call. Upon arriving at the residence, officers found three men suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Harris was identified as one of the three men killed in the incident.
Four additional people, including two men and two women, were injured in the shooting and transported to hospitals. Police said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police Chief Todd Bettison said an altercation at the home escalated into gun violence. Community Violence Intervention leaders said the dispute may have involved a cellphone, although investigators had not publicly established a definitive motive for the shooting.
Harris’ cousin, Janelle Harris, said she had seen him only days before his death. In speaking about the loss, she described the love surrounding Harris and the family’s determination to honor his memory during a painful time.
Neighbors reported activity and arguments at the residence in the days before the shooting. Police said the location had generated seven calls for service since the beginning of the year and was being investigated as a possible after-hours establishment.
