Brandon Joe McCoy Obituary: Macon, Georgia – Man Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Bibb County Jail

Brandon Joe McCoy Obituary, MACON, Ga. — Brandon Joe McCoy, 37, has died after he was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center early Friday morning, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said McCoy was discovered unresponsive at approximately 12:28 a.m. Friday. Deputies immediately began providing life-saving measures while emergency medical services were contacted.

Despite those efforts, McCoy was pronounced dead at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center by Deputy Bibb County Coroner Lonnie Miley. Jail staff subsequently notified McCoy’s next of kin of his death, according to authorities.

At the time of his death, McCoy was in custody on charges including theft by receiving, fleeing and eluding, and obstruction. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to McCoy becoming unresponsive.

Because McCoy died while in custody, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is expected to conduct an autopsy as part of the investigation into his death. The examination is intended to help authorities determine additional information surrounding the circumstances of his passing.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Office of Professional Standards Internal Affairs investigators are also investigating the incident. Officials have not announced a cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
