Daelyn Godfrey Obituary, ROME, Ga. — Daelyn Godfrey, a 13-year-old Rome Middle School student, has died following his passing last Wednesday, according to information shared by his family and funeral home. His death was announced by Rome City Schools, which described the loss as tragic.

Daelyn was an eighth-grade student at Rome Middle School and was known for his involvement in the school’s marching band, where he played the tenor saxophone. He was also a member of West Rome Baptist Church and participated in the church’s youth group.

Those who knew Daelyn remembered him as someone who was always willing to try something new. He was described as “truly a pioneer in his own way,” with a personality that was distinctly his own and a willingness to explore new interests rather than simply follow the crowd.

Daelyn found joy in a number of simple activities and interests. Among them were playing Minecraft, climbing trees and rocks, playing baseball, eating cheeseburgers and watching thunderstorms. Those moments reflected his curiosity and the sense of wonder he brought to the world around him.

A tribute shared by the funeral home described Daelyn as “curious, observant, and always finding wonder in the world around him.” His interests and the way he approached new experiences were remembered as important parts of his personality and the legacy he leaves with those who knew him.

Following the announcement of his death, Rome City Schools said counselors and support staff were available on campus for students, faculty and staff who needed assistance processing the sudden loss. The district also extended its thoughts, prayers and condolences to Daelyn’s family, friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, Daelyn’s family is asking those who wish to show their support to purchase a Bible and share it with someone who needs the gospel. The request reflects the family’s desire to honor his memory through an act of faith and service.

Daelyn Godfrey’s passing has left his family, school community, church and friends mourning the loss of a young life remembered for curiosity, individuality and a willingness to discover new things. Thoughts and condolences remain with his loved ones and all those affected by his passing.
