David Wayne Slone Obituary, CHILOQUIN, Ore. — David Wayne Slone, 27, of Chiloquin, Oregon, died following a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Klamath County on Sunday, September 20, 2026. His sudden passing has left family, friends and loved ones mourning the loss of a young life.
According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:12 p.m. near milepost 255 on Highway 97. Preliminary information indicates that Slone was traveling southbound in a blue Lincoln Navigator when the vehicle attempted to pass another southbound vehicle.
During the maneuver, the Lincoln collided head-on with a northbound Freightliner semi-truck towing a 53-foot trailer. Slone was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 33-year-old Narinder Addr Singh of Yuba City, California, was not injured.
A passenger in the Lincoln sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Emergency crews responded to the scene as authorities worked to assist those involved and begin their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The crash caused a significant disruption along Highway 97, with the roadway affected for approximately four hours while emergency personnel and investigators remained at the scene. Chiloquin Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted the Oregon State Police during the response.
Authorities indicated that speed and impairment are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
