Javier Ibarra Obituary, CAMERON PARISH, La. — Javier Ibarra, 35, of Baytown, Texas, was killed in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning, August 27, 2026, on Louisiana Highway 27 near Ruby Lane in Cameron Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Louisiana State Police Troopers assigned to Troop D responded to the crash shortly after 1 a.m. after receiving a report of a single-vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation found that a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling westbound on LA Highway 27 when it failed to successfully navigate a left-hand curve.
The vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Rogelio Sanchez, also of Baytown, began rotating counterclockwise before overturning. Ibarra was one of three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to state police, none of the three occupants was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. As the Chevrolet overturned, all three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Ibarra sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sanchez and the third occupant suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not released additional information about the identity or condition of the other passenger.
During the investigation, troopers reportedly observed signs of impairment involving Sanchez. He was subsequently arrested and is expected to face multiple traffic violations, along with charges of vehicular homicide and first-degree vehicular negligent injuring. Because Sanchez was receiving medical treatment, he is expected to be booked into the Cameron Parish Jail following his release from the hospital.
Louisiana State Police also collected routine toxicology samples for laboratory analysis as investigators continue examining the circumstances of the crash. The results could provide additional information about whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information or charges could be announced as authorities complete their review.
