John Baker and Joanne Baker Obituary, PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — John Baker, 62, and his wife, Joanne Baker, 59, have died after being found unresponsive Monday morning at a home in the 8300 block of Pine Drive in Pembroke Pines. Their deaths have left family members, friends, colleagues, and members of the law-enforcement community mourning the loss of the couple.
Pembroke Pines Police officers and paramedics responded to the residence following a 911 call. John and Joanne were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates that Joanne fatally shot John before taking her own life. John Baker was a longtime member of the Pembroke Pines Police Department, where he began his career in 1994. He spent nearly 28 years serving the community as an officer and sergeant, building a career centered on public service and his work with residents.
Among his contributions was his role as a founding member of the department’s Crisis Response Team. Baker also supported community organizations and causes including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Special Olympics Torch Run, and Special Compass, a local nonprofit that helps children and families living with disabilities.
