John Greene Obituary, OTERO COUNTY, N.M. — John Greene, owner of Greene Crane & Rigging, LLC, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, following a motor vehicle accident.
Greene’s death has left his family and the community grieving. He is survived by his wife, Randa, his daughter, Randi, and his two sons, Graham and Skoodee. His family has asked that John’s loved ones and those who knew him keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Beyond his work as the owner of Greene Crane & Rigging, Greene was remembered for his strong support of young people, particularly youth involved in livestock programs across New Mexico. His commitment to helping young exhibitors was reflected in his efforts to support livestock sales and encourage the work young people put into raising and showing their animals.
In 2022, Greene created the Otero Community Livestock Buyers in Otero County. He personally reached out to people he knew to seek contributions that would help purchase livestock from youth participating in the Otero County Fair. Those efforts helped make the Otero County livestock sale a major success and demonstrated Greene’s dedication to supporting local youth.
His support extended beyond Otero County. Greene also supported young livestock exhibitors in Lincoln County, as well as participants at the New Mexico State Fair and the Southern New Mexico State Fair. Through these efforts, he became known among those involved in the livestock community for helping young exhibitors receive recognition and support for the hard work they put into their animals.
Following his passing, friends and community members have begun efforts to continue that part of Greene’s legacy. A new group, the John Greene’s Otero County Community Livestock Buyers Group, has been started in his memory with the goal of continuing his support for local youth and their livestock projects. The group will bring multiple contributors together to purchase as many show animals as possible at the highest amounts possible.
The family and organizers are also remembering Greene during this year’s Otero County livestock events. His son, Skoodee, is scheduled to show a pig at the Otero County Fairgrounds at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21. Contributors to the memorial livestock buyers group are being encouraged to attend the livestock sale at the Otero County Fairgrounds at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, where they can be photographed with the livestock they helped purchase.
As John Greene’s family, friends and community members mourn his passing, those continuing his livestock-support efforts hope to honor the values he demonstrated through his dedication to young people. His legacy of supporting youth and recognizing their hard work will remain an important part of his memory. Condolences go out to Randa, Randi, Graham, Skoodee and all of John Greene’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
