Karen Mills Obituary, NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — Karen Marie Mills, of Niskayuna, New York, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, shortly after celebrating her 60th birthday. She was surrounded by the love of her family at the time of her passing.
Born on September 13, 1966, to George and Colleen Marcil, Karen was raised in Cohoes, New York. Her life was marked by kindness and a strong sense of family, qualities that remained central to who she was throughout her years.
Karen dedicated 34 years of service to the New York State Department of Labor. During her career, she built lasting friendships and formed meaningful connections with many people she encountered.
Family was at the heart of Karen’s life. She married Douglas Mills in 1989 after meeting him in 1984, and the couple shared 37 years of marriage. She especially cherished time with her loved ones during holidays and held a special affection for Christmas. She also enjoyed traveling and shopping, often finding thoughtful gifts for others.
Those who knew Karen remembered her for her positivity, generosity and ability to make people feel welcome. A friend described her as “kind, generous, thoughtful, and a genuine friend,” adding that she was grateful and privileged to have known Karen. The tribute also remembered Karen as a light whose absence would be deeply felt.
Karen is survived by her husband, Doug; her daughters, Megan Paradiso and Samantha Mills Regan; and her grandchildren, Eleanor and Everett. She is also survived by her siblings, Joe, Kathy and Colleen, along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members and many friends.
Family and friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects during calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at Glenville Funeral Home in Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish on Union Street, followed by interment at Most Holy Redeemer in Niskayuna.
Karen Mills leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity and devotion to those closest to her. Her family, friends and community will remember the meaningful connections she created throughout her life and the many people who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to bring comfort to all who loved her.
