Layne Aadland Obituary, PIERPONT, S.D. — Layne Aadland, 75, of Pierpont, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026, at SK Home in Roslyn, according to his obituary announcement.
Aadland was born March 1, 1951, and was remembered by friends in the racing community for his longtime presence at Jamestown Speedway. Race fans and drivers shared tributes following news of his passing, recalling the joy he brought to those around the track.
Friends particularly remembered Aadland spending time throughout the pits on his side-by-side or four-wheeler, checking in with drivers and gathering pit reports and updates. His involvement made him a familiar and appreciated presence among race fans and drivers.
Tributes also recalled the years involving Bernie, Charlie and Layne, describing the late 1990s and 2000s as a particularly special period at the speedway. Those who knew Aadland through racing expressed their sadness while remembering the moments they shared with him.
A memorial visitation for Aadland is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2026, at the funeral home. A prayer service celebrating his life will conclude the visitation at 7 p.m.
Military inurnment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Skudenes Cemetery near Pierpont. A time of fellowship will follow at the Roslyn fire hall.
In honor of Aadland’s love for planting trees, his family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, people plant a tree in his memory. Each tree planted is intended to serve as a lasting tribute to his life. Layne Aadland’s memory will remain with his family, friends, race fans and drivers who knew and appreciated his presence over the years.
