Yoketha Brown Obituary, CHICAGO, Ill. — Yoketha Brown, also known as “Ketha Key,” has died after sustaining critical injuries in a wrong-way crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Chicago Sunday night, September 27. Brown was remembered by her family as a medical professional who dedicated her life to helping and serving others.
The fatal collision happened around 11:20 p.m. in the 4000 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the Oakwood Boulevard exit, according to the Chicago Police Department. Authorities said a black SUV was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a white sedan head-on.
Brown was driving the white sedan at the time of the crash. The collision also involved a black coupe, creating a chain-reaction crash. Brown was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where she later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the black SUV was not injured and was taken into custody at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported. Authorities have not released information about potential charges, a court date, or what led the SUV driver to enter the northbound lanes.
The crash caused significant disruption during the Monday morning commute. Several lanes remained blocked for hours as investigators worked at the scene, and the roadway in the affected area remained closed until approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday. Some CTA buses were also rerouted because of the crash and resulting road closures.
Brown’s family is seeking additional information about the circumstances surrounding the collision and has called for answers from authorities. The family has also raised concerns about lighting along DuSable Lake Shore Drive, saying improved visibility could help address safety concerns in the area.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Investigation Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding possible charges against the SUV driver.
Brown, known to those close to her as Ketha Key, is being remembered for her commitment to the medical profession and her dedication to serving others. As her family seeks answers following her death, those who knew and loved her are left to remember the life and service she gave to her community.
