Zachary M. Herron Obituary, SANTEE, S.C. — Zachary M. Herron, 26, of Elloree, South Carolina, has died following injuries sustained in a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer in Orangeburg County on Wednesday morning.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Herron was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries in the crash. The collision happened at approximately 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and Way Road in Santee.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Herron was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Highway 301 when the vehicle collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer that was attempting to turn south at the intersection.
Herron was the only occupant of the Camaro. Authorities reported that the tractor-trailer driver was also alone in the vehicle and was not injured in the crash.
Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle stated that weather conditions appeared to have contributed to the collision. Dense fog was reported in the area at the time, creating reduced visibility during the early morning hours.
