Sergeant Peter Thatcher, Sandra Thatcher, Noah Thatcher And Layla Thatcher Obituary, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY Accident Update — A mother, father and their two children were killed Saturday in a devastating single-vehicle crash in Gibson Township, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Sergeant Peter Thatcher, 45-year-old Sandra Thatcher, 11-year-old Noah Thatcher and 10-year-old Layla Thatcher. The four family members were traveling together when their vehicle left Rock Mountain Drive and traveled down a roughly 60-foot embankment.
Pennsylvania State Police said troopers were called to the crash site at approximately 10:16 a.m. Saturday after the incident was reported. The crash occurred on property belonging to Rock Mountain Bible Camp in Gibson Township.
According to camp director Reid Anderson, the camp contacted authorities after the vehicle was discovered. Emergency responders located the vehicle at the bottom of the steep embankment, where all four occupants were pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have not released information explaining why the vehicle left the roadway. Officials also have not confirmed whether road conditions, weather or any other factors played a role in the fatal collision.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Trooper Stephen Florey is serving as the lead investigator as authorities work to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine what happened before the vehicle left Rock Mountain Drive.
