Matt Moore Obituary, ARTESIA, Miss. — Matthew David Moore, known as Matt Moore, 51, of Artesia, Mississippi, passed away on August 16, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. He was born on July 29, 1975, to David Owen Moore and the late Sharon Frances Closs in Columbus, Mississippi.
Matt attended New Hope High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball. He later began his working life as a carpenter with Caldwell Construction, where he developed skills and talents that remained part of his life throughout adulthood.
Growing up, Matt enjoyed listening to music on the record player with his siblings. He also developed a love for the beach at a young age, a connection that remained meaningful to him throughout his life. According to his obituary, he longed to return to the beach one more time before his passing.
Family was also an important part of Matt’s life. His obituary notes that he loved his children and grandchildren, who survive him along with other members of his family.
Matt is survived by his father, David Moore and Patsy of Daphne, Alabama; daughters Kelsee Moore of Sturgis, Mississippi, Brooklyn Moore of Columbus, Mississippi, and Mackenzey Moore Bowen and her husband, Brade, of Caledonia, Mississippi; and sons Dyllan Moore of Brandon, Mississippi, and Conner Hatley of Mississippi.
He is also survived by his sisters, Kristi Woolbright of Artesia, Mississippi, and Terri Moore of Vass, North Carolina, as well as eight grandchildren: Emerie Grace Moore, Ava Kate Moore, Rylan Howard, Rivers Howard, Rose Howard, Colsen Bowen, Carter Scarbrough and Wynn Scarbrough.
A graveside service for Matt Moore is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Moore Cemetery near Macon, Mississippi. Memorials may be made to Moore Cemetery c/o Bobby Cade, 1399 Beersheba Road, Columbus, MS 39702. Cockrell Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Matt’s memory will remain with his family, loved ones and those who knew him throughout his life.
