Anita M. Morgan Obituary, LEBO, Kan. — Anita M. Morgan, 80, of Lebo, Kansas, died following a head-on collision on Interstate 35 in Coffey County on Friday evening, August 28, 2026. The fatal crash occurred near the U.S. 75 interchange at I-35 mile marker 155.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at approximately 8:32 p.m. Anita was driving a 2015 Toyota Highlander southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 when her vehicle collided head-on with a northbound 2024 Freightliner semi tractor.
Anita sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was transported to Frontier Forensics. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that she was wearing her safety restraint at the time of the crash.
The Freightliner was driven by 42-year-old Wilfred O. Orenge of New Hope, Minnesota. Authorities reported that Orenge was also wearing a safety restraint and did not suffer apparent injuries. The semi was pulling a 2020 Hyundai trailer at the time of the collision.
Following the crash, Anita’s Toyota came to rest in the northbound lanes, while the Freightliner came to rest on its side and blocked both southbound lanes. Both vehicles were later removed from the scene by Williams Towing.
While the Kansas Highway Patrol continues to document the circumstances surrounding the collision, Anita’s passing represents a profound loss beyond the details contained in the official crash report. At 80, she had spent eight decades building memories and relationships and becoming part of the Lebo community.
