SOOKE, B.C. — August 29, 2026 — A significant police response in Sooke has drawn attention from residents and others following developments on Vancouver Island, with online reports referring to a possible shooting. However, Sooke RCMP have not publicly confirmed that a shooting occurred in the community.
Multiple emergency vehicles were reportedly seen travelling toward Sooke, including tactical police vehicles and an armoured vehicle. Online reports also indicated that one person was arrested following the execution of a search warrant. The reported police activity has not, by itself, established that shots were fired or that anyone was injured.
The latest confirmed information from Sooke RCMP concerns a series of break-and-enter investigations that occurred between the 6600 and 6800 blocks of Sooke Road between August 27 and August 28. Police reported three separate incidents during that period.
The first incident involved an attempted break-in at a business at approximately 11 p.m. on August 27. According to police, nothing was reported stolen, although the business’s front door was damaged. At approximately 2 a.m. on August 28, officers responded to a residence in the 6800 block of Sooke Road, where a PlayStation gaming console and a purse were reported stolen.
A third break-and-enter was reported at approximately 7 a.m. at a residence in the 6700 block of Sooke Road. Police said approximately $1,500 worth of property was stolen. The investigation into those incidents remains ongoing, and Sooke RCMP have asked anyone with information or relevant surveillance footage to contact police.
At this time, there are no confirmed details from Sooke RCMP establishing that a person was shot, that anyone was killed, or that anyone was transported to hospital with gunshot injuries. Authorities have also not confirmed that an active shooter was involved or that the reported police operation represents an ongoing shooting-related threat to the public.
The reported presence of tactical officers and an armoured vehicle may indicate that police considered the situation potentially high-risk, but such equipment can be used during operations including search warrants and firearms-related calls. The presence of specialized police resources alone does not confirm that a shooting took place.
