Bayne Nantz Obituary, ILLINOIS — Bayne Nantz, a talented AFT ProSport 450 competitor remembered for his kindness, determination, adventurous spirit, and love for racing, has died following injuries sustained in a tragic crash. He fought for more than a week after the accident before ultimately succumbing to his injuries.
Following the crash, Bayne was treated at OSF Children’s Hospital, where doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to save his life. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a broken hip and pelvis, a lacerated bladder, a dislocated shoulder and elbow, a bruised lung and heart, and a severe traumatic brain injury.
Despite the extensive medical efforts and care he received, Bayne passed away after continuing to fight through his injuries for more than a week. His family later shared an emotional message expressing their overwhelming gratitude to everyone who supported them during the difficult days following the accident.
The family said their appreciation extended to race teams and friends who helped at the crash scene, hospital staff who cared for Bayne, local communities, and supporters around the world. They said the compassion shown to Bayne and their family during the tragedy deeply moved them.
The accident occurred just days after what had been one of the proudest moments of Bayne’s young racing career. He had qualified second at the world-famous Peoria TT and confidently told his family, “I feel good, I’m gonna win today.” His final memory was seeing a hillside filled with supporters wearing “Bayne the Train” shirts and waving to him before he took the holeshot.
Even after his death, Bayne’s family chose to continue the generosity that they said was central to his character. Through Gift of Hope, his organs were donated to help people in need.
