Frederick Marty Obituary, ELBRIDGE, N.Y. — Frederick Marty, 62, was fatally shot by a member of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team after authorities said he pointed a firearm at law enforcement personnel during a prolonged barricade situation at a mobile home park in Elbridge.
Deputies initially responded to Rolling Hills Mobile Home Park on Route 5 at approximately 5:53 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports that a man was firing a gun from the rear window of his residence. Authorities later identified the man as Marty.
According to Sheriff Tobias Shelley, a bullet fired from the residence struck a nearby vehicle occupied by a young female. Deputies established a perimeter around the mobile home and evacuated residents from neighboring homes while law enforcement worked to contain the situation.
Members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and a New York State Police trooper responded to assist. Authorities spent several hours attempting to establish communication with Marty and persuade him to leave the residence, but officials said he did not communicate with law enforcement during the standoff.
At approximately 11:23 p.m., SWAT personnel attempted to breach a window of the mobile home. Investigators also deployed a drone inside the residence to gather information about Marty’s location and assess conditions inside the home.
Sheriff Shelley said Marty pointed a long gun at the drone before immediately pointing the firearm toward a SWAT team member. A SWAT officer then fired at Marty, striking him. Authorities said Marty was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the confrontation was captured on drone video, which investigators are expected to review as part of the ongoing examination of the officer-involved shooting. Shelley said the motive remained unclear and that Marty had not communicated with authorities during the incident.
The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Authorities continue to review drone footage, witness accounts and other evidence collected at the scene as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the use of deadly force. Additional information is expected as the investigation continues.
