LAKEVILLE, Massachusetts Shooting Update — Gregory Buckley, 31, died after an officer-involved shooting at a residence on Heritage Hill in Lakeville, Massachusetts, following a 911 call reporting a “disturbed person,” according to authorities.
Lakeville police officers responded to 8 Heritage Hill on Saturday after receiving the emergency call. Police said the caller allowed officers into the home, where officers encountered Buckley, whom authorities said was armed with a firearm and pointing the weapon at officers.
According to police, officers repeatedly ordered Buckley to drop the firearm. A confrontation followed, during which gunfire was exchanged between Buckley and officers. Authorities have not released a determination on whether Buckley fired his weapon at police before officers returned fire.
Officers provided medical assistance to Buckley immediately after the shooting. He was transported to Morton Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained during the incident. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office identified him as 31-year-old Gregory Buckley.
Four Lakeville police officers were also transported to a hospital for evaluation following the shooting. Authorities said all four officers were later released.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident. District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the Lakeville officers involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, and the cameras recorded the incident. Investigators are expected to review the footage along with other evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Neighbors reported hearing a large police response in the area following the incident. Neighbor Laura Lima told NewsCenter 5 that she heard sirens and was alerted by her husband that there was a shooting, prompting the family to move to the basement.
The circumstances surrounding the exchange of gunfire remain under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting or whether Buckley fired at officers. Further information is expected as the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office continues its investigation.
