Joe Cooper Obituary, GENEVA, Ohio — Joe Cooper, a longtime community leader, school resource officer, police officer, coach, and mentor, has passed away following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. His death was announced by Geneva Area City Schools Superintendent Christopher Edison, who shared that Cooper had hoped to return to serving students after Christmas break.

Cooper was deeply connected to the Geneva community, where he dedicated years of service through law enforcement, education, athletics, and community involvement. As a School Resource Officer, he became a familiar and trusted presence for students, staff, and families, with a strong commitment to protecting and supporting young people.

According to Superintendent Edison, even after receiving his diagnosis, Cooper’s main concerns remained his family and his school community. He worked to help ensure students and staff would continue to have support by recommending Ralf Caswell, a lifelong friend and experienced School Resource Officer, to provide protection for the campus during his absence.

Cooper’s dedication extended beyond his role as an SRO. The Geneva Gridiron remembered him as a coach, police officer, former president of the organization, Board of Education member, and active participant in community activities. Through those roles, he touched the lives of many residents and students throughout the area.
