John Hall Obituary, PEMAQUID HARBOR, Maine — John Hall, 54, of Lee, New Hampshire, was killed Thursday after the single-engine aircraft he was piloting experienced engine trouble and crashed into the waters of Pemaquid Harbor along the Maine coastline. His 21-year-old son, Tyler Hall, who was the only passenger aboard the aircraft, survived the crash and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office identified Hall as the pilot and said he was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Federal Aviation Administration records indicate that Hall was the registered owner of the aircraft, a Diamond DA20 with the tail number N83RF.
According to a preliminary report released by the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday, the aircraft experienced engine problems while in flight and declared an emergency before going down along the shoreline. The plane ultimately crashed into Pemaquid Harbor and came to rest upside down in approximately four feet of water.
Hall’s son, Tyler, was the sole passenger aboard the aircraft. He survived the impact and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The crash prompted an immediate response from people in the surrounding area. Nearby residents and construction workers reportedly entered the water to assist the people aboard the aircraft before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Flight information provided by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office showed that the aircraft had departed from Brunswick Executive Airport on Thursday and was traveling toward Knox County Regional Airport when the emergency occurred. Investigators have not determined what caused the reported engine trouble or why the aircraft was unable to remain airborne.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, flight conditions and other available evidence as they work to establish what led to the fatal Pemaquid Harbor plane crash.
