John Ryan Obituary, HAVERTOWN, Pa. — John Ryan, 57, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, has died from injuries sustained in a 14-vehicle crash on West Chester Pike on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2026. His death has left family, friends and others who knew him mourning an unexpected loss.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. along West Chester Pike near Darby Road, according to information provided by Haverford Township police. Ryan was driving a pickup truck when the vehicle began traveling erratically and struck multiple vehicles.
Investigators said the pickup continued along West Chester Pike before eventually coming to a stop near the intersection of West Chester Pike and Eagle Road. The collision involved 14 vehicles and affected approximately two miles of the roadway.
Ryan was transported for medical treatment following the crash but later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision. His death was attributed to those crash-related injuries based on the information available.
Eight other people were also transported to area hospitals following the multi-vehicle collision. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. Emergency personnel and investigators responded to the scene as portions of West Chester Pike were closed while the crash was investigated.
Authorities have also been examining whether Ryan experienced a medical emergency before the collision. Haverford Township Police Chief John F. Viola reportedly said a possible medical emergency may have preceded the crash. Authorities also indicated that Ryan’s driver’s license had previously been revoked for medical reasons.
The possible medical emergency has not been established as the confirmed cause of the crash. Investigators have not announced a final determination explaining why Ryan’s pickup began traveling erratically before the collision.
