Kurt Shoffner Obituary, ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. — Kurt Shoffner is being remembered by coworkers and members of his community following his death after a vehicle collision on State Route 28/66 in Armstrong County.
The collision occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on State Route 28/66, approximately a half-mile south of the Tri County Truck Center, according to information attributed to the Armstrong County Coroner. The roadway remained closed for several hours following the incident.
News of Shoffner’s death brought grief to coworkers who knew him through his years working at the grocery store, first at Shop ’n Save and later at Giant Eagle. Colleagues described him as a familiar face who regularly greeted customers and coworkers and took time to talk with people he encountered.
Allyssa Phillips, who said Shoffner hired her as a cashier in 2016 at Shop ’n Save, shared memories of working closely with him over the years. She recalled being moved into the customer service office shortly after she was hired, where she learned pricing and daily operations while working alongside Shoffner.
When the store became Giant Eagle, Phillips said she was offered a full-time lead position overseeing point-of-sale responsibilities, including tags, signs and prices. She said Shoffner encouraged her to accept the opportunity and continued to work alongside her and other members of the grocery team.
Phillips also remembered the personal connection they developed through years of working together. She recalled sharing conversations, laughter and pizzas with Shoffner while closing Shop ’n Save on Mondays, and said he was present through both difficult and happy moments in her life.
“Sometimes the best people you meet at work, turn from co worker, to like family,” Phillips wrote in her tribute. She described Shoffner as someone whose absence will be deeply felt at Giant Eagle and by the many people who knew him.
As the community remembers Kurt Shoffner, coworkers and friends continue to mourn the loss of a familiar and valued presence in their lives. Further official details concerning the collision and any investigation were not provided in the information available. His memory remains with those who worked alongside him and shared years of everyday moments with him.
