Mila Jenayla Hernandez Obituary, Location Not Provided — Mila Jenayla Hernandez, a 9-year-old girl who had cerebral palsy and significant medical needs, has died following a prolonged hospitalization and serious health complications, according to an update shared by her family.
Mila had lived with cerebral palsy and required extensive medical support. She received nutrition through a G-tube, had a tracheostomy to support her airway and breathing, and depended on a ventilator because she was unable to breathe independently.
Mila had been hospitalized for more than a month after an infection involving Pseudomonas developed into pneumonia. During her hospitalization, her family said she experienced several episodes in which her oxygen saturation dropped significantly. She also began experiencing seizures as her condition became increasingly difficult.
According to information shared by her family, Mila lost her pulse four times while in the hospital, with medical teams performing CPR in efforts to restart her heart. After repeated medical emergencies and the toll her illness had taken on her body, doctors informed the family that there was little more they could do to medically support her.
Faced with that devastating situation, Mila’s family made the difficult decision to sign a do-not-resuscitate order. The decision meant that if Mila’s heart stopped again, medical teams would not perform another attempt at resuscitation, allowing her to rest peacefully when her body could no longer continue.
Mila’s grandparents had remained by her side throughout her hospitalization, according to the information shared by the family. Their time at the hospital resulted in weeks of missed work and lost paychecks, while the family also continued to care for Mila’s three other siblings.
News of Mila’s passing has brought renewed grief to those who had followed her story and prayed for her during the difficult days of her hospitalization. Ryan Wolf shared that many people had surrounded Mila and her family with prayers and messages despite never having met the young girl.
Mila Jenayla Hernandez will be remembered by her family and by those who followed her journey through an extraordinarily difficult period. As her loved ones face life without her, condolences and continued support remain with Mila’s grandparents, siblings, family members, and everyone who stood beside her throughout her final days.
