Roman D. Cash Obituary, EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — Roman D. Cash, 42, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, has died following an early-morning single-vehicle crash on the Eads Bridge, authorities said.

Cash was pronounced dead at the crash scene at approximately 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr., who identified him as the victim.

The crash occurred on the Eads Bridge, which connects East St. Louis, Illinois, with St. Louis, Missouri. A second person was also inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. The available information does not provide further details about that person’s condition.

The collision led to the closure of the Eads Bridge in both directions during the Tuesday morning commute. The closure affected traffic between Illinois and Missouri as authorities responded to the crash and worked to clear the scene.

Video footage showed what appeared to be a burned truck being removed from the crash scene at approximately 7:20 a.m. The Illinois Department of Transportation reported that the bridge remained closed in both directions from the time of the crash until shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
