Corie Walsh Obituary: Frankfort, Illinois – Mother Charged With Murder in Death of 2-Year-Old Son Barrett Walsh

Corie Walsh Obituary, FRANKFORT, Ill. — Corie A. Walsh, 38, faces three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett “Bear” Walsh, who died after being found unresponsive at a Frankfort residence on September 1.

Police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a home in the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court after Barrett was discovered unresponsive in the basement. According to the information provided, a neighbor removed a ligature and performed CPR on the toddler before he was transported to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m.

Prosecutors said preliminary autopsy findings indicated that Barrett died from asphyxia caused by ligature compression of the neck. Court documents also allege that Walsh was found upstairs with injuries to her wrists and thighs and later made statements to investigators concerning her son’s death.

The family’s other three children, including an 8-month-old infant, were accounted for following the incident and were not physically injured, according to the information provided. Authorities have not reported additional physical injuries involving the children.

Investigators also learned that Walsh had discussed the Lindsay Clancy murder trial with friends through a group text earlier on the day of Barrett’s death. However, the court documents do not establish that the discussion was connected to the death of her son.

Walsh remained hospitalized as of Thursday and is expected to be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility once she is medically cleared. Prosecutors are seeking to deny her pretrial release as the case moves forward.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against Walsh have not been proven in court. The circumstances surrounding Barrett’s death remain the subject of the criminal investigation and court proceedings.

Barrett “Bear” Walsh was 2 years old at the time of his death. As the legal process continues, his death has left his family and those affected by the tragedy facing an immeasurable loss. Further details about funeral or memorial arrangements were not provided.
