David Siambanes and Dawn Stone Obituary, HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — David Siambanes, 59, and Dawn Stone, 53, have died after a small plane crashed and caught fire Thursday morning in a wooded area near U.S. 301 and Maislin Drive in Hillsborough County.
The crash was reported at approximately 8:16 a.m., shortly after the aircraft reportedly departed Tampa Executive Airport, which is located about half a mile from the crash site. The Lancair Evolution aircraft went down in a wooded area and caught fire following the crash.
Firefighters responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. The two people aboard the aircraft were found dead inside the plane. Authorities identified the victims as Siambanes, the pilot, and Stone, the passenger.
Siambanes was a spine surgeon with Bonati Spine Institute. His professional work connected him with patients and colleagues through his medical career. Bonati Spine Institute expressed condolences following his death and extended sympathy to his family, colleagues and loved ones.
Stone was an employee of AdventHealth. The organization also expressed condolences to Stone’s family, colleagues and loved ones following the fatal crash. Her death has brought grief to those who knew and worked with her.
The aircraft sustained extensive damage in the crash. Flight records indicate that a Lancair Evolution departed Tampa Executive Airport at approximately 8:14 a.m. and was listed as heading toward Elizabeth City Regional Airport in North Carolina. Officials, however, have not confirmed whether that aircraft was the same plane involved in the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident. The cause of the crash has not been released, and authorities have not provided additional details regarding what led to the aircraft going down.
