Haylan Engdahl Obituary, CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. — Haylan Engdahl, a sophomore at Milligan University, was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving members of the university’s cycling team in Hampton, Tennessee.
Engdahl was among a group of Milligan University cyclists involved in a collision with a vehicle on U.S. Highway 19E near Simerly Creek Road, according to information released by Milligan University and local authorities.
Milligan University confirmed that Engdahl and fellow sophomore Brayden Rodgers were killed in the crash. Multiple other members of the cycling team were seriously injured and were taken for medical treatment following the incident.
Ballad Health said two people died at the scene and that several injured victims were transported to Johnson City Medical Center. At least one injured person was transported by air, with trauma surgeons and medical teams prepared to provide care.
The crash brought emergency responders and law enforcement to the area Wednesday morning. Carter County authorities asked drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews worked at the scene, and officials continued their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
