Heaven Wood Obituary, PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — Heaven Wood, whose identity has been shared by community members following a devastating incident in Royal Oaks Estates, died after suffering a gunshot wound at a residence on Yorkshire, while a young child was later found dead inside a vehicle that had crashed and caught fire.
At approximately 6:09 a.m. Friday, Peoria County deputies responded to the 3500 block of Yorkshire near Abby Circle, off Route 8, after receiving a report of a vehicle fire. The investigation led deputies to a home at 3511 Yorkshire, where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from her injuries. Authorities have not officially released the victim’s identity, although community members have identified her as Heaven Wood. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
Two other children were also found inside the Yorkshire residence. Authorities said the children were physically unharmed. Investigators were simultaneously working to determine what happened to a vehicle that had reportedly been driven away from the home before crashing and catching fire.
After emergency crews extinguished the vehicle fire, a young child was discovered inside. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office said the child belonged to the woman found at the residence. Authorities have not released the child’s identity, how the child died, or what caused the vehicle fire.
The investigation later led authorities to search for 24-year-old Jeremiah Duncan. At approximately 12:05 p.m., Peoria Police officers and Peoria County deputies located Duncan near Molleck Drive and Oak Crest Drive in The Lex. He was taken into custody and, after being injured, was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. No charges had been announced in the information provided.
Community members have identified the child as King and said he was Heaven Wood’s son and Duncan’s child, but authorities had not officially confirmed the identities or relationships at the time of the latest update. The two surviving children found at the Yorkshire home were left to face the loss of their mother and the death of the young child.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, vehicle fire and deaths. Heaven Wood, the young child, and their loved ones are being remembered amid profound grief, while condolences go to the surviving children and everyone affected by the tragedy.
