Naseem “Poohman” Thomas Obituary, CHICAGO, Ill. — Naseem Thomas, a 26-year-old Chicago man known affectionately as “Poohman,” was fatally shot Friday evening on the city’s South Side after leaving a funeral, according to information provided by Chicago police.
The shooting happened at approximately 7 p.m. on September 25, 2026, near a Citgo gas station in the area of 76th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. Police said two people in a black sedan approached Naseem and opened fire.
After being shot, Naseem got into a black Dodge Challenger and attempted to drive away. The vehicle traveled several blocks before crashing into a utility pole near 74th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.
Officers found Naseem inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was 26 years old.
Police said Area 2 detectives are investigating the shooting and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. The two people believed to be involved fled the area following the crash and had not been identified or taken into custody as of the latest information provided.
Investigators said Naseem may have attended the funeral of rapper Bloodhound Q50 earlier that day, with a funeral sticker reportedly visible on the windshield of his vehicle. Authorities have not confirmed whether his attendance at the funeral was connected to the shooting.
Naseem’s death has left his family, friends and others who knew him mourning the loss of a young man whose life ended suddenly at 26. Those who knew him remembered him by the nickname “Poohman,” a name that reflected the familiarity and affection associated with him.
