Jack Neary Obituary, SIDNEY, Ohio — Jack Neary, a respected member of Team Lapua and a passionate benchrest shooting competitor, has died after passing away in his hotel room while preparing for one of his most beloved matches of the year. His death has left friends and fellow members of the shooting community mourning the loss of a man remembered for his dedication to the sport and his strong faith in God.

Neary was known for his presence both on the shooting range and on social media, where he connected with fellow competitors and friends who shared his passion for benchrest shooting. Those who knew him have remembered his commitment to the sport and the enthusiasm he brought to competitions.

The same Shelby County Deer Hunters Association Benchrest Range in Sidney, Ohio, where Neary had competed is now being remembered as the place associated with his final morning. Friends expressed their grief while recalling the many hours Neary spent at the range pursuing the sport he loved.

Neary’s accomplishments in benchrest competition included an outstanding performance at the NBRSA Eastern Region Fall Finale in October 2025. Competing for Team Lapua, he won first place in the 2-Gun Grand Aggregate at the event, which was held at the historic benchrest range in Sidney.

During that competition, Neary also secured first place in the Light Varmint 100-yard class on Saturday. The weekend featured manageable conditions at 100 yards before challenging winds at 200 yards, but Neary maintained the consistency that helped him finish at the top of the 2-Gun Grand Aggregate.

Following his 2025 victory, Neary spoke about the consistency of his rifle throughout the weekend and his satisfaction with navigating a talented field of accomplished benchrest shooters. His performance became another notable achievement in a shooting career marked by dedication and competitive excellence.
