Jose Antonio Uribe and Eduardo Hernandez Uribe Obituary, SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Jose Antonio Uribe, 29, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, was identified as the second victim killed in a shooting at the Comet apartment complex on Garner Road Sunday night, October 4, 2026.

The shooting was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the apartment complex located at 127 Garner Road, according to information provided by the Spartanburg Police Department. Officers responded after receiving reports of multiple shots fired at the property.

When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was initially treated by responding officers before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the second victim as Uribe, who lived at the Comet apartment complex. Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Uribe was legally identified through fingerprints and was pronounced dead on Sunday, October 4.

The first victim was previously identified as 25-year-old Eduardo Hernandez Uribe of Hickory, North Carolina. According to the coroner’s office, Hernandez Uribe suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Authorities announced Monday afternoon that 23-year-old Brayan Alexis Ayala of Anderson County, South Carolina, had been arrested in connection with the shooting. Ayala was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center and faces two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. A judge denied bond, according to authorities.

Police have not publicly disclosed what led to the shooting or whether Ayala knew either of the victims. Investigators also have not released a possible motive or additional details about what happened immediately before the gunfire.

The Spartanburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. As authorities work to establish the full details of the shooting, Jose Antonio Uribe and Eduardo Hernandez Uribe are being remembered by those who knew them. Condolences go to their families, friends, and others affected by their deaths as the investigation continues.
