Robert McLeod Obituary, BEAUFORT, S.C. — Robert McLeod, 25, has died after being fatally shot Sunday afternoon at the Garden Oaks Apartments in Beaufort, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
Beaufort police officers responded to the Garden Oaks Apartments shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they found McLeod injured and immediately began life-saving measures.
McLeod was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for further treatment. According to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, he was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after his arrival.
The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified McLeod as the victim on Monday. The Beaufort Police Department said in a Sunday evening press release that the shooting was accidental.
Authorities have not released additional information about how the firearm was discharged or the circumstances that led to the shooting. Beaufort police continue to investigate the incident as detectives work to establish the complete circumstances surrounding McLeod’s death.
