Kieler Roush Obituary, ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Kieler Roush, 20, of Zanesville, Ohio, has died after he was struck by a falling tree during a severe storm that brought strong winds to the area Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the Zanesville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:12 p.m. Sunday to reports of a large tree that had fallen near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and West Main Street. Witnesses at the scene told officers that Roush had been struck by the tree after powerful winds knocked it down.
First responders found Roush trapped beneath the fallen tree and storm debris. Members of the Zanesville Fire Department and Community Ambulance responded to the scene and attempted to assist him.
Despite emergency efforts, Roush was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Zanesville Police Detective Sgt. Phil Michel. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Roush’s death beyond the information provided about the storm-related incident.
The fatal incident occurred as residents and emergency crews were dealing with the aftermath of severe weather and storm-related damage throughout the area. Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency Director Jeff Jadwin said the tragedy was particularly difficult for the community and the first responders who responded to the scene.
“This is taking its toll on the community and on the first responders,” Jadwin said. Zanesville resident Robin Wise also expressed shock over the sudden loss, saying, “It’s a scary thing. It really is. I mean, it can happen to anybody.”
Roush’s death has left family members, neighbors and members of the Zanesville community mourning as the area continues to recover from the storm. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by falling trees and debris during severe weather, when strong winds can cause trees and large branches to fall unexpectedly. Zanesville is located approximately 55 miles east of downtown Columbus.
