Rashied M. Schuelke Obituary, LA CROSSE, Wis. — Rashied M. Schuelke, 15, has died after being shot Thursday evening near the intersection of 7th Street and Hood Street in La Crosse, Wisconsin, according to the La Crosse Police Department.
Police said officers responded to the area at approximately 5:22 p.m. after a shooting was reported. First responders found Schuelke suffering from gunshot wounds and began life-saving measures before he was transported to a local hospital.
Schuelke was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities have not publicly released details about what preceded the shooting or disclosed a possible motive. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
A significant police presence was reported in the area following the shooting. At least one person was reportedly taken away in handcuffs, although police have not publicly announced an arrest or identified anyone as a suspect.
The nearby Emplify Health by Gundersen hospital was briefly placed under lockdown as a precaution following the incident. A hospital representative said the temporary security measure was part of standard protocol to protect patients, visitors and employees.
