Richard Lamot Obituary, MANASSAS, Va. — Richard Lamot, 48, was killed Wednesday morning in a workplace shooting at a United Rentals facility on Wellington Road in Manassas, Virginia, leaving his family, coworkers, and community grieving his sudden death.
Manassas City Police officers responded to the facility at approximately 7 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of an active shooter. When officers arrived, they found three employees suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims were located in a garage area, while a third was found in an office area within the garage.
During an afternoon news conference, Manassas City Police Chief Douglas Keen confirmed that two of the victims had died at local hospitals. Lamot was identified as one of the employees who died. He was pronounced dead at Prince William Hospital. The second victim was identified as 33-year-old Christopher Serrano, who also died from injuries sustained in the shooting.
A third employee was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities said a handgun was used in the shooting, and investigators continued working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police identified 37-year-old Marvin Grant as the suspected shooter. Investigators said Grant was a coworker at the United Rentals facility and had a North Carolina address. Authorities believe an altercation at the workplace preceded the shooting, although investigators were still reviewing video evidence and had not determined the exact number of shots fired.
Following the shooting, Virginia State Police troopers located Grant traveling southbound on Interstate 81 in Augusta County. A pursuit followed after Grant continued driving from a rest area. The vehicle eventually stopped, and police said Grant exited with a firearm pointed at his head. At approximately 10:30 a.m., authorities said Grant suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Chief Keen said investigators were still working to determine the motive behind the shooting and noted that the Manassas City Police Department had no prior interactions with Grant before the incident. Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution while authorities responded to the unfolding situation.
Richard Lamot’s death has left those who knew him facing the sudden loss of a coworker and member of their community. Details about his family, career history, personal achievements, and funeral or memorial arrangements were not provided. As the investigation continues, condolences are extended to Lamot’s family, loved ones, coworkers, and everyone affected by his death. May his memory be remembered with dignity and peace.
