Eden Bunn Obituary — Eden Bunn, 16, was killed after the Volkswagen Polo she was traveling in crashed into the River Nene following a loss of control on the road. Her final moments were revealed during an inquest into the tragic crash.
Eden was traveling in the vehicle with four other teenagers when it suddenly veered off the road before plunging into the river. During the inquest, one passenger recalled hearing Eden scream the driver’s name just seconds before the vehicle crashed into the water.
The inquest heard that 18-year-old driver Declan Berry had been traveling at approximately 90 mph in a 60 mph zone. Passengers reportedly asked him to slow down, but he insisted they would be fine shortly before the vehicle lost control.
Police reports presented during the inquest determined that excessive speed was the primary cause of the crash. Investigators also found that uneven road surfaces and deep potholes contributed to the vehicle leaving the road and entering the river.
Three passengers managed to escape from the vehicle. Declan, however, remained inside the car and also tragically drowned in the crash, leaving two families to grieve the loss of their loved ones.
In a heartbreaking statement, Eden’s parents remembered their daughter as a kind and loving girl whose world revolved around her horses. They also expressed sympathy for Declan’s family, acknowledging that both families were facing the same devastating loss following the incident.
Legal representatives for Eden’s family said they hope the conclusion of the inquest will serve as a serious warning to young drivers about the consequences of dangerous and reckless driving. The findings highlighted the devastating consequences that can follow excessive speed and unsafe driving decisions.
Eden’s death has left her family and those who knew her mourning a young life lost far too soon. Her parents’ memories of her kindness and love for her horses remain part of the legacy she leaves behind, as condolences go to everyone affected by the tragic crash.
