Niamh and Alma Kinsella, Ella Hendricken Accident, Kildare Accident Update — Three sisters and a young child were seriously injured after a major crash on the M9 motorway near Moone, County Kildare, early Sunday morning. The collision involved a Hyundai carrying the family and a BMW carrying five boys, with the crash claiming five lives.
Niamh and Alma Kinsella, who are both in their 30s, are understood to remain in critical condition in Tallaght Hospital following the collision. Their sister, Ella Hendricken, who is in her 20s, was also seriously injured and is being treated at St Vincent’s Hospital.
A young boy who was travelling in the Hyundai with the family was also injured and is receiving treatment at Crumlin Children’s Hospital. The sisters and the child were among those affected when the vehicles collided shortly before 3 a.m. near Moone.
According to the information provided, the BMW carrying the five boys was travelling in the wrong direction on the motorway when it collided with the Hyundai. The BMW was reportedly travelling at more than 120 kilometres per hour at the time of the crash. Five people died in the collision.
Niamh and Alma are understood to have been seated in the front of the Hyundai, while Ella and the child were in the back. The family, from the Graiguecullen area of County Carlow, were reportedly travelling towards Dublin Airport to attend a wedding abroad.
The three sisters are understood to be well known in their local community. Ella is reportedly a social worker in Carlow, while Niamh is understood to work as a PE teacher at a local school. Locals described the family as lovely and quiet.
Carlow Parish Priest Fr Thomas Little said affected families were hoping for the injured to make a speedy recovery, while the local community continued to pray for them. He also said the victims of the crash and their families had been remembered during Masses since the accident.
The latest information indicates that Niamh and Alma remain in critical condition, while Ella remains seriously injured and the young boy continues to receive hospital treatment. The crash has left families and the wider community grieving, with prayers and support being offered to those injured and to their loved ones.
