Kayla Saager-Beckley Obituary, TULSA, Okla. — Kayla Saager-Beckley, the 30-year-old pregnant wife of Tulsa football coach John Beckley, has died suddenly following a medical emergency after a workout. Her unexpected passing has left her husband, their families, friends, and members of the football and soccer communities mourning.
Kayla was pregnant with the couple’s first child, a baby girl they had already named Sawyer. According to Tulsa head coach Tre Lamb, the medical emergency happened with devastating speed. Lamb said Kayla was working out before she was found unresponsive about 10 minutes later.
Kayla and John Beckley had married in June, just months before her death. The couple had been preparing to welcome their first child together, making the sudden loss particularly devastating for those who knew them.
Beyond her connection to Tulsa football, Kayla had built an accomplished career in soccer. She captained Binghamton’s soccer team before continuing her playing career professionally overseas. She later became a college coach, continuing her involvement in the sport and contributing to the development of other athletes.
Kayla was also remembered by the East Islip community, where she was a standout girls soccer player and a member of the Class of 2014. Following her death, soccer players from Deer Park and East Islip gathered on the turf for a tribute, holding yellow flowers as words of remembrance were read over the public-address system.
